Genesis eNews Setup

Our favorite plugin for blog/website subscriptions is Genesis eNews Extended. It’s robust, easy to use and set up, and works wonderfully. Every one of our themes includes styling just for this plugin, so it’ll match your theme perfectly!

Genesis eNews can be set up with virtually any mailing list service (Mailchimp, Aweber, Constant Contact, Emma, and so many others). Mailchimp is one of the most popular email marketing services. It’s free up to 2,000 subscribers and super simple to configure. This tutorial will show you how to set up Genesis eNews with Mailchimp, but the instructions should be fairly similar if you’re using a different service. At the end of this tutorial you’ll also find instructions for setting up Genesis eNews with Feedburner if you prefer that method.

ENEWS + MAILCHIMP

1. Install the Genesis eNews Extended widget on your website by going to Plugins > Add New.

2. Visit your Mailchimp dashboard. If you haven’t yet created a subscriber list, do that before moving to the next step (instructions).

3. Go to Lists > Name-of-the-list-you-would-like-to-use > Signup Forms > Embedded Forms > Naked. Look for this section:

4. You’ll only need to grab a small portion of this code, but the code box in Mailchimp doesn’t allow you to only select part of it. Copy the entire code and paste it into a text editor. If you don’t have a text editor, you can paste it into a WordPress text widget temporarily.

5. Once you have the code in an editor or widget, copy the link following “action:”

6. Go to Appearance > Widgets. Drag the Genesis eNews Extended widget into the widget area of your choice.

7. Add the link you copied to the Form Action field in the eNews widget settings. In the email field, type EMAIL. In the first name field, type FNAME. If you would like to collect last names (not always necessary), type LNAME in the last name field. These three fields must be uppercase.

8. Configure the input placeholders and subscription button text how you’d like. Our demos are usually set at:
